Support Linkage College’s Flem to Wem Bikeathon – 216 Miles for a Sensory Garden

Beverley & District Chamber of Trade is proud to highlight an exciting fundraising event organised by one of our valued members, Linkage College. As part of their 50th anniversary celebrations, Linkage College is hosting the Flem to Wem Bikeathon, a unique and challenging fundraising initiative aimed at raising money to develop a sensory garden for their campus and the wider community.

What is the Flem to Wem Bikeathon?

The Bikeathon covers an impressive 216 miles, symbolically linking Flem (Flemingate in Beverley) to Wem (Wembley Stadium). While the distance suggests a major cycling journey, this event will take place on stationary exercise bikes, making it accessible to many participants regardless of outdoor conditions.

This challenge represents a meaningful way for the college community and supporters to come together, cycling collectively to reach their goal and raise vital funds.

Why a Sensory Garden?

The funds raised will go towards creating a sensory garden at Linkage College. Sensory gardens are specially designed spaces that stimulate the senses through plants, textures, sounds, and scents. These gardens provide therapeutic benefits, especially for individuals with sensory processing needs, and enhance well-being and learning opportunities for students and the local community.

About Linkage College

Linkage College is a specialist further education provider in the East Riding of Yorkshire, dedicated to supporting young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. Their commitment to enriching education through innovative projects like this sensory garden reflects their ongoing mission to improve the quality of life and learning environments.

This fundraising effort also ties into the broader work of the Linkage Community Trust, which supports various community and educational initiatives across the region.

How You Can Help

  • Join the Bikeathon: Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or new to exercise bikes, your participation counts.
  • Donate: Every contribution helps bring the sensory garden closer to reality.
  • Spread the Word: Share this event within your networks to boost awareness and support.

Shaun Dart, Chair of the Chamber of Trade, said: “Beverley is known for its strong sense of community and support for local initiatives. We encourage everyone to get involved in this worthy cause that will benefit Linkage College students and the wider community for years to come.”
