BCoT AGM: Building a Stronger Business Community

On Wednesday, 28th January, the BCoT held its Annual General Meeting, hosted by Chair Shaun Dart. The meeting highlighted a commitment to long-term stability and local collaboration.

Key Leadership Updates

To ensure a seamless transition and consistent leadership, Shaun Dart announced that both the BCoT Chair and the organising committee will now serve two-year overlapping terms. “The goal is to encourage a smooth transition and passing of the baton,” Shaun explained. “Our core ethos is to encourage businesses and local groups to work together.”

Shaun was delighted to welcome Marnie Taylor of Islay Bloom to the Organisers’ Committee.

The Power of Collaboration

The meeting emphasised that when companies, charities, and Town Councils collaborate, they create a healthier economy by sharing knowledge and resources. This spirit of partnership was echoed by local representatives:

  • International Links: Adrian Ramsdale from Beverley Town Council (BTC) discussed building partnerships with twinning groups to learn from other countries—an initiative he suggested local companies might find beneficial.
  • Local Events: Dave Campbell from the Rotary Club announced the upcoming Pancake Race, organised in partnership with BTC.
    • The event takes place on Sunday, 15th February, at the corner of Cross Street and Toll Gavel.
    • Pre-race meetings begin at 11:30 AM, and all local businesses are encouraged to participate.
    • Pancake Race Entries: Must be submitted by 10th February.
    • Forms are available at the Beverley Tourist Information Centre or online at beverley.gov.uk/pancakes.
  • Chamber website: Ben Gardiner of Blue Gekko spoke about the Chamber’s digital presence, emphasising that the BCoT website is designed to share Chamber and local updates, but most importantly, to showcase the successes and achievements of its members.
  • Member Success: Marnie shared her delight at winning the Beverley Minster Christmas Tree Festival. As a first-time entrant, she was thrilled to take the top prize in a record-breaking year for the event, showcasing the high standard of creativity within the local business community.

Networking and Next Steps

Following the formal proceedings, members enjoyed refreshments (kindly provided by Tracey and Jade of Fresh n Fruity in Dyer Lane) while networking. Shaun Dart concluded the evening by reminding members that annual renewals are now due.

Next Meeting:

  • Date: Wednesday, 25th February
  • Time: 5:45 PM
  • Location: Blok and Vine, Dyer Lane
