Stage 2 of the first ever Tour de Yorkshire, which passed through Beverley over the May Day bank holiday weekend, was a success.

Thanks to the town's preparing for the event with decorated blue and yellow bicycles and wheels, and themed shop windows, there was an air of excitment around the town as spectators gathered along the route to see the riders approach.

The winner of stage 2 was Dutch rider Moreno Hofland (Team LottoNL-Jumbo), who completed the Selby to York route via Market Weighton, North Newbald, Beverley, the Yorkshire Wolds, Wetwang and Malton in 3 hours, 57 minutes. Ranking first in the general classification after stage 2 was Lars Petter Nordhaug from Norway (Team Sky), who also came top of the final general and points classifications.

The 2016 Tour de Yorkshire will see Beverley hosting the start of Stage 1, which will hopefully see the town attract an even bigger crowd and more events in the future.
